festive flower headband - the yellow rose of texas

i've told you about my love of headbands, but it has gone to another level. last week i was looking for something to brighten up an outfit, and decided to try my hand at making felt roses. now i'm addicted. here are my first three attempts:
i think they turned out pretty well, though i'm working to get better at it. i used a regular sheet of felt and cut 3 1 inch(ish) strips. i glued them to this brown headband that i never wear because it blends into my hair.
here is the finished product. i am in love. good thing i made it for myself.
i made three of these in different colors for myself over the weekend. i will post more about them later. i'm thinking of selling them on etsy. do you think anyone would be interested? i'm nervous about it for some reason.
as for the name of this beauty, it comes from an old civil war song that you may be familiar with. what's that? did you say your family didn't sing old civil war songs in the car on road trips after buying the tapes (yes, tapes) during tours of battlefields? that was just my family? oh. weird. i thought it was normal. here's what i remember - "there's a yellow rose in texas, that i'm a gonna see, no other soldier knows her, no soldier only me, she cried so when i left her, it liked ta broke my heart, and if i ever find her, we never more will part. she's the sweetest rose of color, this soldier ever knew, her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew. you can talk about your dearest mae and sing of rosalie, but the yellow rose of texas beats the belles of tennessee."
wow. nerd alert.
here it is on me. sorry for the odd angle. self portraiture from the side and above is not easy. thanks for putting up with my weirdness. i will keep you posted on the etsy developments.

  4. It's so cool. I love it! I would call it a masterpiece. I also must applaud your dexterity...very impressed at your ability to take the picture of the side of your head while looking the other way! That, in itself, is a "bragable" talent. Thank you for sharing on the Boardwalk Bragfest today!
