i don't know about y'all, but i often wonder about my sense of style. our house ends up being a mix of hand-me-downs from my parents, windy gap cast-offs, and stuff jed built himself. it's a bit of a mish-mash to say the least. this month in real simple there is a great article that helps you to define your own decorating style. i took the quiz, and my results made total sense to me. here's the quiz:
Your Decorating Style Defined | Real Simple
all you do is pick which item appeals to you the most. don't second guess yourself, just pick the one that calls to you.

gold medal
i LOVE the olympics. winter, summer, special, para... i love them all. i love the passion, the pageantry, the life's dreams fulfilled and crushed. give me some russian figure skaters, shaggy snowboarders, italian lugers, american skiers wearing tiaras, a little curling (which may be my last shot at a medal), a few inspiring stories of triumph, and i am a very happy girl. i can't through a broadcast without tears. the skier who won canada's first home gold, and dedicated it to his sweet brother with special needs... come on bob costas, you're killing me here. with the addition of dvr to our home, i can keep my job and still not miss a moment. jed is over the whole thing. his comment was, "so i guess i'll have to put up with this every 2 years?" yes. you will. it is an addiction i just can't quit. i'll let whitney sum it up for you.

forgetful
"his divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
for this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith, goodness;and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. for if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. but if anyone does not have them, he is near-sighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins."
2 peter 1:3-9

love
happy valentine's day!
i've never been big on the holiday, and actually wore all black in protest my senior year in high school (including lipstick and nail polish). over the last 2 years i have embraced it, and this one has been the best. my sweet husband made me coffee this morning, then surprised me with a love note and a lovely locket from this etsy site:

i guess he took the blog hint. ;)
after church he spent 2 hours with me in target, which is true dedication. we came home and i forced him to watch the olympics endlessly. later he surprised me with homemade chocolate covered strawberries.

i love that we have figured out a way to celebrate this holiday without buying into the hallmark madness. i made valentine's stockings for us to leave each other notes. see the genius i stole them from on betsy's site. we bought no cards, no candy, nothing cheesy. instead we spent time together, and it was exactly what i needed. if you've read the 5 love languages book, you will understand me when i say that my love languages are touch and quality time. if you haven't read it, do it now. my favorite thing to read about love is this:

1 corinthians 13:4-8
