It was time to decorate the house for Valentine's Day, but I didn't want to spend much money. I went to Hobby Lobby and was so excited to find all of their V-Day stuff on clearance. I bought a package of heart shaped doilies and a spool of ribbon for a little over a dollar.
I measured a length of ribbon a little longer than our mantle, and glued the doilies to it using craft glue. The ribbon has different patterns on each side, so I knotted it in between each doily to show off both the polka dots and stripes. I secured it to the mantle using double sided tape.
I shopped my house to bring in a few Valentine-y touches. This cake plate belonged to my great aunt Bonnie, and the red candles were gifts from my youngest brother, Matt.
Two of my favorite wedding pictures complete the simple display on either side of our autograph frame. It is nothing fancy, but I love looking at it.
One of my favorite decorative items is our barnwood framed mirror made by our friend Bruce. I finally took down the Christmas cards I had hung from it, but left the hemp string and clothespins.
On the top line I added a few doilies and a picture of us when we were dating and when we got engaged. It makes a sweet reminder of the beginning of our journey.
On the bottom line I hung a few more doilies, 2 handmade "Love" coasters that were a wedding gift from my friend Marci, and one of our sonogram photos. This represents the new love in our life, our Baby Bun.
So, for about a dollar our living room is decorated to remind us of our love story this Valentine's Day. It took about 20 minutes total (yay!), and makes me feel good when I walk in the room.
How do you decorate on the cheap?

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love how you tied in the photos in the mirror banners- what a clever way to personalize a banner! And really love that you included the sonogram in there - so sweet!
