halloween read and play pretend costume dance party
As a diehard bookworm, reading is a part of daily life. My kids share my love for books and we are always trying to find new ways to incorporate our favorite stories in to our play time. We recently found a fun book called “Curious George Goes to a Costume Party” at the library and have read it daily for the past few weeks. We decided to create our own costume party like George, and had a blast doing it. Read on to find out what we did and get lots of fun Halloween Read + Play ideas from other mamas in the Kid Blogger Network.

As I told you in this post, pretend play and costumed dress up is a daily occurance at our house. Today we picked out costumes and sat down to read about George and his friend attending a costume party.

George and the man with the yellow hat show up with out costumes and have to find something to wear. All of their friends are dressed up in fun costumes. This is a great segue to talk about the fun of Halloween and how all of our friends will be dressing up in costumes.

After reading the book together, we turned on music and had a pre-lunch dance party. I usually play either Toddler Radio or Indie Kids Radio on Pandora. We danced together, ran, spun, and used the fireplace and entry hall as stages. Dance parties are a great opportunity to get silly with your kids and laugh together. The movement and exercise is great for the whole family. Whether you are stuck inside with bad weather, just need to get some toddler energy out, or want an excuse to wear those Halloween outfits, a costume dance party is a ton of fun and takes very little effort and zero prep.
