Taste Safe Chocolate Cinnamon Scented Sensory Dough Recipe

  • 1 and 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup corn starch
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Kids are so excited about making scented sensory doughDirections:

  1. Mix all of your dry ingredients together. Bonus points if you get your kids involved scooping and stirring. You can see how much my little ones love mixing their dough above.
  2. Stir in your oil until a dough ball starts to form. I used a stand mixer to get everything well mixed.
  3. If your dough is a bit sticky, add in a little more flour. If it is too dry, add a bit more oil.
  4. Get ready to play!

Sensory Play with Chocolate Cinnamon Scented Sensory Dough that is Taste Safe

Our DIY water and sensory table was not clean on this particular day, so we used a big mixing bowl for play time. The kids picked out cookie cutters, and the Bear requested sprinkles. That boy loves him some sprinkles. I also brought out our silicone cupcake liners so we could make pretend cupcakes as well as cookies.

Testing out our taste safe chocolate cinnamon scented sensory doughI let them go for it, rolling and balling the dough to make play cookies and cupcakes. We did this activity outside on our picnic table, but you could easily do it inside as well.

Using Cookie Cutters with Scented Sensory DoughWhile this dough is taste safe, it does not taste good. This is intentional so little ones won’t confuse play time with snack time. It does smell and feel amazing. I think I enjoyed squishing and rolling and smelling it just as much as the kids. Sensory play is good for all of us, right?! The cinnamon, chocolate, and vanilla really come through and the kids felt like they were baking goodies. It was a blast! The sprinkles really take it over the top, so if you have some lying around I encourage you to let your kids go crazy with them.
