Do you ever just need to relax, shift your focus, lift your mood, find balance, or take a quick break or perspective change to find a little joy in your day? Me too, friends. This DIY lotion recipe is so easy to whip up and while the coconut oil moisturizes your skin, the lavender can soothe your skin and relax you. The Joy blend contains Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Lemon, Coriander, Tangerine, Jasmine, Roman Chamomile, Palmarosa, and Rose essential oils and the sweet smell can help with mood lifting and emotional balance. Let’s make this lovely little recipe for Happy Mama Lotion.
Joy essential oil
Lavender essential oil
glass or metal jar
Measure out enough coconut oil to fill your jar. I like to whip mine in my stand mixer, but you can also use a fork or hand mixer. Whip it until it softens and reaches your desired consistency. Add in a mixture of the two essential oils to your taste. My little mini mason jars hold 1/3 cup coconut oil, and I use 10 drops of Lavender and 5 drops of Joy. A little bit goes a long way, so go one drop at a time until you find your perfect blend. Enjoy!

When our family made the decision to try essential oils back in February, one of my top priorities was to try use them to help us get better sleep. I’ve had trouble falling asleep for my entire adult life, and was pretty desperate for help. My son was also struggling, taking almost 2 hours to fall asleep some nights. Some of the oils we’ve tried have really helped us, so today I’m sharing how to get started using essential oils to get better sleep for the whole family. I’m not a doctor and can’t tell you what is best for your family, and this is not medical advice in any way. I’m just a mom who is trying out natural remedies with my family and sharing what has worked for us with you. Making jewelry can be a fun and frugal way to add style to your wardrobe. A diffuser necklace is so much more than an accessory. Diffuser necklaces help you to enjoy your favorite essential oil throughout the day without having to reapply. I love using essential oils to lift my mood, bring focus, or help me relax. I’ve seen many different diffuser necklace styles, but hadn’t found one I loved. I wanted something that would work well but also blend with my wardrobe and sense of style. This necklace is functional and fashionable, and so easy to create. Use the tutorial below to make our own.
In our quest for a green lifestyle, we’ve tried lots of different things. Some worked for us, some didn’t. We love cloth diapers, but as hard as I tried I just couldn’t get used to a menstrual cup. We switched almost entirely over to reusable microfiber cleaning cloths, but I just can’t make the switch to using cloth baby wipes. Getting started with essential oils has opened up a whole new world of natural solutions for our home, and I know I’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg so far. Today I’m sharing eight super easy and eco-friendly cleaning hacks to help get your bathroom sparkling clean without using harsh chemicals or creating waste. I’m joining my amazing team of Oil Explorers to share our favorite tips for spring cleaning using natural products.
If you’ve been following along on our journey through The Jesus Storybook Bible during Lent, welcome back. Today I’m sharing how the Bear painted a mason jar to create a reed diffuser diy to help us better understand the story of the sinful woman anointing Jesus, “Washed with Tears” (Mark 14/Luke 7/John 12). Read on to find out how to create your own scented oil reed diffuser with your kids. It was a fun interactive art project for the Bear, and now he gets to enjoy the essential oils diffusing in his room. Mason jar reed diffusers make a fabulous child made gift for mother’s day or grandparents.
We did something really special and fun with our kids this weekend that we’d never done before but definitely will do again – we gave them a blessing and anointed them with oil. It was simple and sweet and our whole family loved it. I felt funny about it at first and thought it might be kind of weird, but it was really the most special thing. We are trying our best to teach our kids about Jesus and bring the bible to life for them using the Jesus Storybook Bible, and this was another way to accomplish that. We simply read the story of Samuel anointing David as God chooses him as Israel’s future king and then gave our kids a blessing. I’ll share with you how we did it so you can try it with your family. Why did I spend money on essential oils? If you follow me on Facebook you’ll know that I’ve been asking lots of questions about essential oils, and after months of research finally decided to buy in a few weeks ago. Quality essential oils aren’t cheap, and we are on a tight budget. It took quite a while for me to decide to take the plunge, so today I’m sharing why I decided to spend money on essential oils. I’m joining with my fellow Oil Explorers as part of the Skeptic’s Guide to Essential Oils series. Each of us is tackling a different topic that we’ve wrestled with in a very real, raw series perfect for those of us who are intrigued but still a little skeptical about this whole oil craze.
