Final Poster

We are huge fans of Shaun the Sheep and his crazy flock around our house, and can’t wait to see the Shaun the Sheep Movie when it comes out on August 5th. In this full length movie, Shaun decides to take the day off and have some fun and gets a little more action than he bargained for.  A mix up with the Farmer, a caravan, and a very steep hill leads the flock to the Big City. Shaun and the flock have to work together to return everyone safely to the green grass of home. In honor of the upcoming premiere, I’m hosting an awesome Shaun the Sheep Movie giveaway and sharing a preview of the movie today. Watch the preview below and enter to win the prize package for your flock.

How to Protect Your Marriage from One of the Most Common Causes of Divorce

No one gets married thinking about divorce, but we know it happens to so many couples. If we could figure out what causes it, would we try to avoid it? OF COURSE WE WOULD. We’re not dumb. There it is in black and white, on every list of the most common causes of divorce: money and financial issues. Here’s the thing – it isn’t a lack of money that makes the list. It’s the issues that come from not being on the same page financially with your spouse – not seeing eye to eye about money. Maybe one spouse is a spender while the other is a saver, or one insists on controlling every aspect of the finances without letting the other have a say. What is comes down to is that if you aren’t on the same page, with the same vision of your financial future as your spouse, there will be issues. So, how do you get on the same page?

Four Sweet and Simple Easter Traditions to Start with Your Family

Starting Sweet and Simple Easter Traditions with Your Family

Easter is one of my favorite holidays. I love the joy and the promise of new life that comes each spring, and I love dressing my kids in cute outfits and hunting for Easter eggs. As a young family with little kids, starting new traditions for our little family can be a challenge as we unite those of our families of origin with what we want for the future. My goals for our family Easter traditions are that they would be three things: memorable, special, and simple. I don’t want to add stress to an already hectic time of year, and I don’t want to get caught up in trying to make things too perfect while forgetting about what is really important. Today I’m sharing four simple Easter traditions we’ve started with our family to make the holiday special while keeping it stress free.

A Babies Don’t Keep Poem for the Modern Parent {Free Printable}

Babies Don't Keep Poem for the Modern Parent - Mint BackgroundMy mom always had a plaque hanging on the wall with the last lines of the poem “Song for a Fifth Child” by Ruth Hurlburt Hamilton. You probably know it as the “Babies Don’t Keep” poem. Knowing that our Pearl Girl is probably my last baby has given me a new appreciation for the sentiment behind Hamilton’s poem. Rocking her fifth child became more important than all that other busy work of keeping house.

Family Travel: Hiking Craggy Pinnacle near Asheville, North Carolina

Family Travel Hiking Craggy Pinnacle near Asheville, North Carolina with KidsOne of my all time favorite short hikes, Craggy Pinnacle is just 1.4 miles with a 250 foot gain in elevation. The view from the top is incredible on a clear day, and the hike through the rhododendrons feels like you stepped in to a magical fairy land. We took our kids this summer, and the Bear was able to hike it on his own at age 3. If you are in the Asheville area, hiking Craggy Pinnacle is a can’t miss hike. Be sure to read our post about hiking with toddlers here, and more hikes we love here.

Create a Thankful Tree with Your Family #Thanksgiving #Festive Family

In the rush to Christmas, sometimes the Thanksgiving holiday gets overlooked. I love Thanksgiving, and think it is about so much more than stuffing our bellies and shopping for Black Friday deals. Teaching kids about gratitude, and practicing an attitude of thankfulness ourselves is key to living a life of peace and contentment. The more thankful I am for my life, the better I am at living it. For the second year in a row we’ve created a very simple Thankful Tree for the month of November to help us focus on gratitude. Read on to find out how we make it as well as to find ideas for Thankful Traditions from the other Festive Family bloggers. Don’t forget to enter the big holiday gift guide giveaway at the end of this post.
