Today I’m sharing a fun activity that pairs art, creative play, and fine motor skill practice for your preschooler. We painted cardstock hearts and then practiced lacing with yarn. The kids had a blast and were so proud of their finished hearts. Be sure to check out all the other Creative Valentine’s Day Activities for Kids from my friends in the Kid Blogger Network at the bottom of this post.
I cut out hearts from a piece of cardstock, and asked the kids to paint them. They LOVE to paint. They used brushes and fingers and really enjoyed spreading colors all over the hearts.
We let the hearts dry, then I punched holes around the edges of the cardstock hearts. I gave each child a piece of yarn and asked them to lace the heart however they wanted. They could go around the edge, across, or any way they chose. The Pearl Girl is just beginning to practice lacing, so I made the holes in her heart card a little bigger.
The finished lacing hearts are so fun and the kids really got a chance to be creative and make something special. These would make a great valentine card for a grandparent or neighbor. How do you get creative with your kids?
