DIY Happy Mama Lotion Recipe
Do you ever just need to relax, shift your focus, lift your mood, find balance, or take a quick break or perspective change to find a little joy in your day? Me too, friends. This DIY lotion recipe is so easy to whip up and while the coconut oil moisturizes your skin, the lavender can soothe your skin and relax you. The Joy blend contains Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Lemon, Coriander, Tangerine, Jasmine, Roman Chamomile, Palmarosa, and Rose essential oils and the sweet smell can help with mood lifting and emotional balance. Let’s make this lovely little recipe for Happy Mama Lotion.
Ingredients:
glass or metal jar
Directions:
Measure out enough coconut oil to fill your jar. I like to whip mine in my stand mixer, but you can also use a fork or hand mixer. Whip it until it softens and reaches your desired consistency. Add in a mixture of the two essential oils to your taste. My little mini mason jars hold 1/3 cup coconut oil, and I use 10 drops of Lavender and 5 drops of Joy. A little bit goes a long way, so go one drop at a time until you find your perfect blend. Enjoy!

Create a DIY Leather Feather Diffuser Necklace {Tutorial}
Making jewelry can be a fun and frugal way to add style to your wardrobe. A diffuser necklace is so much more than an accessory. Diffuser necklaces help you to enjoy your favorite essential oil throughout the day without having to reapply. I love using essential oils to lift my mood, bring focus, or help me relax. I’ve seen many different diffuser necklace styles, but hadn’t found one I loved. I wanted something that would work well but also blend with my wardrobe and sense of style. This necklace is functional and fashionable, and so easy to create. Use the tutorial below to make our own.
Pottery Barn Inspired Tulle Tutu Easter Basket DIY Tutorial {Fabulously Frugal}
Last spring I fell in love with a gorgeous white Easter basket from Pottery Barn Kids that came with a pink tulle skirt around it. I was *this close* to paying way too much money for it, justifying the purchase with thoughts of the Pearl Girl’s first Easter holiday. Thankfully I came to my senses and decided to make one myself. It was so easy to put together and cost less than $10 to make. DIY Outdoor Obstacle Course Play Ideas for Kids
We are so ready for spring and getting back to our daily outdoor play routine. While my kids play independently pretty well outside, sometimes an activity or a little direction helps to get them moving. We often set up DIY outdoor obstacle course play for the kids using our existing lawn furniture and their outside toys. The course never looks the same and they are always up for racing around, climbing, jumping, and competing. Today I’m sharing how we set up outdoor obstacle course play as part of the Outdoor Play Challenge. Check out the rest of the Outdoor Play Challenge at Building Blocks and Acorns and grab a free printable play calendar with a whole month of fantastic outdoor play ideas.
Our Simple DIY Bathroom Update
Just before Christmas we began a very basic DIY bathroom update in our kids’ and guest bathroom. Layers of wallpaper were peeling off the walls, and it was time for an upgrade. We had a VERY small budget for this project so we kept it very simple. Today I’m sharing the basics of our upgrade from the paint to the scent decor, and I’ll share a tutorial on our DIY utility box shelf soon.
Create a DIY Play Tent and Reading Nook
Kids love a tent to play in, and curling up in a reading nook is so much fun. For those reasons we decided to give our kids a sweet little play tent for Christmas this year. We had two requirements. It needed to be cute and easily stored. I didn’t want something huge and ugly in my living room, and I wanted to be able to take it down and set it up in seconds. Today we’re sharing how we created our DIY play tent and reading nook as part of the Fort Building Challenge from Building Blocks and Acorns. Be sure to check out all the other inspiring forts all month long here as well as our recent pillow fort here.
Real Home Inspiration: DIY + Vintage Finds + A Bicycle Themed Nursery at the Hansen Home
This summer we traveled across the southern U.S. staying with friends and family along the way. At every home we visited I found something inspiring, as I often do visiting the homes of friends here in Dallas. I asked several of them if it would be ok to share a peek at their real homes and creative touches for a new series here at Bare Feet on the Dashboard. No staging, no faking it, I’ll just share real homes to inspire you. To kick off my Real Home Inspiration series, I’m bringing you the Hansen Family’s DIY touches, vintage finds, and super fun bicycle themed nursery. I hope you love it as much as I do. Thanks to the Hansens for sharing their home with us!
Build a DIY Boat Dock
When we were at my parents’ house for Christmas, my brothers and Jed worked together to build a DIY boat dock for the backyard. My parents live on a small lake, and for my entire life we’ve launched the canoes and fishing boats off the muddy shore or a sad little log. Those days are over, my friends. The boys teamed up after my brother Matt came up with the idea, and made it happen. Matt was kind enough to write out the plan so you can make your own DIY boat dock if you’re so inclined. Thanks Matt!
