Art play is a great way to get your kids creating and expressing themselves. We love to try new painting techniques in our home preschool, and found two different way to paint with plastic wrap as part of a month long Painting Challenge. With this challenge, it is all about the process of kids creating art, not a Pinterest perfect finished product. We had so much fun and the kids really loved the reveal after peeling off the plastic wrap at the end. Read below to find out what we did, and visit the Painting Challenge page over at Messy Little Monster to find 34 other fun painting techniques to try with your kids.

A Preschool Water Experiment to Teach about Moses and the Red Sea Using the Jesus Storybook Bible
This week we read the Jesus Storybook Bible version of Moses parting the Red Sea during our home preschool, and got the kids involved in a little water experiment to help bring the story to life. Our Moses and the Red Sea preschool activity is part of the Jesus Storybook Bible Activity Series. Kid Blogger Network writers are sharing a different interactive activity to go with each story and you can find them all here.
Our Simple DIY Bathroom Update
Just before Christmas we began a very basic DIY bathroom update in our kids’ and guest bathroom. Layers of wallpaper were peeling off the walls, and it was time for an upgrade. We had a VERY small budget for this project so we kept it very simple. Today I’m sharing the basics of our upgrade from the paint to the scent decor, and I’ll share a tutorial on our DIY utility box shelf soon.
Rainbow Resist Art Painting ~ Creative Activities for Kids
In our home preschool activities we often focus on colors and letters. The Bear (3.5) knows all the basic colors and can identify most of his letters. We started working on color order and learning the rainbow. We sing a song from Mickey Mouse Club House that puts the colors in rainbow order, and I thought it would be fun to make a rainbow resist art painting in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. I’m hosting the Creative Activities for Kids Monthly Blog Hop here on Bare Feet on the Dashboard. You can see the full collection of monthly themed posts from my fellow Kid Blogger Network writers on the series page here, and check out all the other rainbow and St. Patrick’s Day activities at the bottom of this post.
Five Ways to Start a Mini Emergency Fund {Fabulously Frugal}
There was a time when I thought I would never be able to save $1000 for a mini emergency fund. Now I can’t imagine life without it, as well as our big emergency fund (6 months worth of expenses). If you want to set aside for emergencies, but the idea of saving $1000 is intimidating or seems impossible I’m here to help. Emergencies will come, and you don’t want to be in a panic when they arrive. Having an amount set aside that you only touch for emergencies can really give you peac of mind. Before you start to pay off debt or invest, you need to have money set aside for emergencies.
Why Should I Spend Money on Essential Oils?
Why did I spend money on essential oils? If you follow me on Facebook you’ll know that I’ve been asking lots of questions about essential oils, and after months of research finally decided to buy in a few weeks ago. Quality essential oils aren’t cheap, and we are on a tight budget. It took quite a while for me to decide to take the plunge, so today I’m sharing why I decided to spend money on essential oils. I’m joining with my fellow Oil Explorers as part of the Skeptic’s Guide to Essential Oils series. Each of us is tackling a different topic that we’ve wrestled with in a very real, raw series perfect for those of us who are intrigued but still a little skeptical about this whole oil craze.

Exploring Mickey’s Magical Arts World with Preschool Kids #DisneyImagicademy
We are so excited to tell you about the new Mickey’s Magical Arts World app from Disney’s Imagicademy because we are BIG Disney fans and love apps that allow kids to be creative while learning rather than just entertained. The new apps from Disney Imagicademy combine favorite characters with a curriculum designed to meet early learning needs and encourage creativity. The kids and I explored the app together, and were instantly enthralled. Mickey welcomes kids in to a world of creative arts where they can draw, design, create, and make music, all with the help of their favorite Disney characters. Best of all, the app is FREE to download, and has corresponding apps for learning math skills and for parents.
A Babies Don’t Keep Poem for the Modern Parent {Free Printable}
My mom always had a plaque hanging on the wall with the last lines of the poem “Song for a Fifth Child” by Ruth Hurlburt Hamilton. You probably know it as the “Babies Don’t Keep” poem. Knowing that our Pearl Girl is probably my last baby has given me a new appreciation for the sentiment behind Hamilton’s poem. Rocking her fifth child became more important than all that other busy work of keeping house.
